4-Star QB Malachi Zeigler Commits to SMU

Benton (LA) standout Malachi Zeigler, a Class of 2027 quarterback, has announced his commitment to SMU over the weekend.

The 6’3”, 209-pound junior chose the Mustangs over a long list of major programs, including Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Houston, Florida, Tennessee, and TCU, among others.

Zeigler is rated as the No. 11 quarterback nationally and the No. 9 overall player in Louisiana for the 2027 class.

A dynamic dual-threat signal caller, Zeigler brings a big arm with excellent deep-ball touch and the ability to deliver accurately across all levels of the field. His quick release, clean mechanics, and strong lower-body engagement allow him to make every throw in the route tree.

He’s also a true playmaker with his legs, showcasing speed, mobility, and poise on the move. Zeigler’s long, lean, athletic frame makes him a nightmare for defenses both inside and outside the pocket.

Through his junior campaign, Zeigler has been outstanding, already totaling 1,632 yards with 15 touchdowns.
