SMU safety Ahmaad Moses has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Defensive Back of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday. This is also his second award this week, including the Senior Bowl Stock Up Defensive Player of the Week.
Moses delivered an explosive performance in the Mustangs’ victory over No. 10 Miami, posting a career-high 15 tackles, including two tackles-for-loss. The senior safety also recorded two interceptions, marking his second career game with multiple interceptions. Both takeaways led directly to SMU touchdowns, including a critical interception in overtime that halted the Hurricanes’ drive and secured the win.
Nationally, Moses is tied for first in total interceptions (5) and leads the ACC in interceptions per game (0.56), ranking fifth in the FBS. He anchors an SMU defense that tops the nation in turnovers gained (22), ranks fourth in passes intercepted (14), and sits fourth in red zone defense (0.647), all conference-leading marks.
For his performance, the former Mansfield Summit standout was also recognized as the Senior Bowl Stock Up Defensive Player of the Week earlier on Monday.
Moses previously earned ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors after the season opener against East Texas A&M (Sept. 2), when he intercepted a pass and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown.
Before the season, he was named to several preseason watch lists, including:
Phil Steele Preseason All-ACC Second Team
Athlon Sports Preseason All-ACC First Team
Panini Senior Bowl Top 300 List
East-West Shrine Bowl 1000
