Byron Nelson won a crucial 4-6A matchup over Justin Northwest on Friday night, collecting a 21-7 decision over the Texans. The win catapulted the Bobcats into sole possession of third place in 4-6A, while Northwest (6-2)(4-2), now finds itself in fourth place with two weeks left in the regular season. The Texans have now lost in back-to-back weeks after ripping off six consecutive wins to begin the season. It was the fifth straight win for Byron Nelson (6-2))(4-2).
After a scoreless first quarter, Byron Nelson RB Anthony Sexton got things going as he scampered in from 18 yards out to break a scoreless tie with 7:07 remaining in the 2nd quarter to put the Bobcats up 7-0. A blocked punt by the Bobcats swung the momentum in their favor. Byron Nelson recovered the ball deep in Northwest territory at the Texans 18 yard line to set the stage for Sexton's touchdown run and the early Bobcat lead.
On it's ensuing possession, Byron Nelson put together a seven play 56-yard drive capped by a 16-yard run from Sexton with 1:11 left in the third to extend the Bobcats lead to 14-0.
Clinging to life, Northwest answered quickly with a four-play, 68 yard drive culminating in a three-yard touchdown run from Nate Jean to cut the lead in half to 14-7 heading into intermission.
Ultimately, held scoreless in the second half, Northwest made things interesting nonetheless with a pair of long drives that ultimately bogged down inside the Bobcats 10 yard line.
Byron Nelson salted the game away when Bobcats quarterback Grant Bizjack hooked up with wide receiver Parker Almanza for a 50-yard TD strike with 5:37 remaining to close out the Texans.
Byron Nelson is on the road again next week as it travels to take Bell ( 2-6)( 1-4). Northwest faces a major test, as they take on Trinity (7-1)(5-1) in a game with playoff implications.
