The Week That Will Be…
Denton Guyer has been impressive through the first two weeks of the season. The Wildcats began the season by knocking off two-time 5A Division I defending state champ Aledo in week one. They followed that up by doubling up Arlington Martin 38-19 on Friday night. A week three showdown with North Crowley awaits. The Panthers are riding a wave of emotion after stunning then No. 1 ranked Desoto in an instant classic on Friday night. Can the Panthers avoid the emotional letdown after a huge win last week? This should be a good one.
Highland Park doesn’t wow you with anything they do. The plan is simple. Execute the game plan behind a balanced offense and bring eleven men to the ball on defense. Sophomore quarterback Buck Randall has played well in his first season as a starter. Defensively, the Scots have been stingy through the first two weeks of the season. Can Dallas Jesuit be the first to take down the boys from Highland Park?
Sitting at 0-2, 5A powerhouse South Oak Cliff isn’t used to being in such a hole at this early juncture of the season. In its defense, the Golden Bears opened the season against two of the best teams in the country in No. 7 Galena Park North Shore and No. 2 ranked Duncanville. Friday night's opponent, Longview isn’t nationally ranked, but beating coach John King’s Lobos at home is no easy task. Can the Golden Bears get up off the mat in week three?
Another week, another huge matchup for Duncanville , as the Panthers host national power St. Frances of Baltimore, MD. Will the Panthers be able to "Lock The Gates" on St. Frances? This one could be the national game of the year, as more than a dozen major Division I players are scattered on both rosters. Plain and simple, it doesn’t get any better than this.
