The Week That Was….
North Crowley 57
Desoto 51
A week after surrendering just 111 yards of total offense in a 70-0 blowout of Creekside (Ga). Desoto’s vaunted defense was repeatedly gashed at the hands of an upstart North Crowley squad who’s clearly established itself as one of the favorites in Class 6A.
Senior wide receiver Quentin Gibson had a monster night, finishing with 7 catches for 180 yards and 4 touchdowns. Senior running back Cornelius Warren III was equally impressive, rolling up 152 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns on 16 carries. Folks, North Crowley is for real. It doesn't get any easier for the Panthers, as they welcome in Denton Guyer this week.
Frisco Emerson 21
Frisco Reedy 13
For the third time in the three year history of the program, Emerson starts the season at 2-0 after a tight victory over Reedy on Thursday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Down 10-7, Emerson's Christian Lynch forced a fumble on the opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter to setup the go ahead touchdown. Emerson is now 9-0 vs Frisco ISD teams all time.
Highland Park 24
Lucas Lovejoy 17
In a battle of two offensive masterminds in Highland Park's Randy Allen and Lovejoy's Todd Dodge, it's only fitting this game would end up as a defensive slugfest. Highland Park's defense surrendered just three points as both Lovejoy touchdowns came courtesy of a pair of pick sixes by it's defense. Fittingly, linebacker Beau Jones's interception early in the 3rd quarter setup a go-ahead touchdown run from sophomore quarterback Buck Randall to give the Scots a lead they never relinquished.
Duncanville 34
South Oak Cliff 12
After falling behind early, Duncanville’s powerful offense awoke from an early slumber and never looked back, cruising to 22 point win over 5A rival South Oak Cliff 34-12. Five-Star Alabama commit Keelon Russell had a big night. He completed 25-of 39 passes for 325 yards and 5 touchdowns. Seven different players caught passes for the Panthers on Friday night, with six of them accounting for touchdowns. Duncanville is a team loaded with talent and the Panthers are seeking their third straight state title this season. Duncanville welcomes in national power St. Frances Academy (MD.) on Saturday.
Allen 42
Cedar Hill 14
In a battle of ranked 6A squads, Allen emerged victorious thanks to it's stingy defense and the play of quarterback Brady Bricker. Bricker seems to have recovered nicely after missing the Eagles final three games of the 2023 season with a broken collarbone. Bricker accounted for 193 yards of total offense and 3 touchdowns in leading Allen to a comfortable win over previously unbeaten Cedar Hill.
