Flex Zone 1 on 1 Challenge Top Performers: Upperclassmen

Updated: Jul 14, 2024

The Flex Zone 1-on-1 Challenge is an annual camp designed to provide a competitive environment for football players. This is seventh year where campers get the opportunity to prove they are the best at their positions. Founded by Coast 2 Coast Athletics founder Stephon Johnson and his son Stephon “Boogie” Johnson, the camp aims to level the playing field for athletes by providing top-notch instruction from high school coaches, former college players, and former NFL players.

Participants are graded by coaches and staff, with each position evaluated based on specific performance criteria such as completions, footwork, and pocket awareness for quarterbacks. The camp has a reputation for jumpstarting recruiting for players, offering exposure that helps prospects get noticed by recruiters.

In this article, we spotlight several up-and-coming high school players who were top performers at the Flex Zone 1 on 1 Challenge in Dallas, showcasing their skills and potential to make a significant impact on the high school level.

Xavier Hampton Class of 2025 | Athlete | Dallas Kimball High School

Offers: Northeastern State (OK)

Hampton has a long, lean frame, with a larges catch radius that enables him to extend and make tough grabs over defenders when he is at wide receiver. He has strong hands that he uses to attack the football. As a defensive back, he has the versatility to line up at cornerback or safety. Hampton has ideal size for a defensive back at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds. He moves fluidly and his ability to backpedal, plant and turn his hips were several traits that stood out in his game. He is extremely coachable, taking instruction well and quickly applying it in the drills to correct his technique. Hampton has the skill set to be a playmaker on both sides of the ball. He picked an offer from NSU this spring. College programs should keep an eye out for the Kimball standout this season.

Decorian Blanton | Class of 2027 | Edge | Jefferson High School

Blanton was one of the surprise standouts who flashed early in the drills for the defensive linemen. He has a long, lengthy frame with huge hands and he uses his extended reach to his advantage at engagement to keep blockers at arms length. Blanton has a quick first step, he has good bend at the hips and his ability to use a variety of moves in close quarters allowed him to win several battles in the trenches. He was one of several standouts from Jefferson who received praise from the coaches. Blanton has a huge upside and as he continues to mature his game will flourish.

Austin Norwood | Class of 2025 | Wide Receiver | Tioga High School

Offers: Hendrix College, SAGU

Norwood had a great camp. He showed his quickness, agility and his ability to make quick cuts in the drill portion of the camp. Austin has a stout build, with broad shoulders and he has strong, reliable hands. He attacks the ball in flight aggressively, he showed that he can get open off of press coverage easily and he had a highlight reel over the shoulder catch, showing the ability to track the ball well in flight. His junior year he filled up the stat sheet, racking up 1,254 total yards with 11 touchdowns. Norwood showed up and showed out at the Flex Zone 1 on 1 Challenge in Dallas.

Jake David | Class of 2027 | Athlete | Tioga High School

David flashed early in the drill portion of the Flex Zone 1 on 1 Challenge. He has quick, nimble feet and he moves well in space. He was impressive in the footwork, cone drills, showing good hip flexibility and the ability to change directions quickly. David has strong hands that engulf the football. Jake saw meaningful snaps as a freshman in 2023 and I expect him to continue to get targets in an offense that will allow him to be a playmaker. David also plays on the defensive side at linebacker, where he is a sure tackler who plays fast.

Noah Hamilton | Class of 2026 | Offensive Line | Dallas Kimball

Hamilton has a stiff punch at engagement, he has nimble feet and he has a quick first step at the snap. He is strong at the point of attack and he showed a piston-like leg drive that allows him to get defenders off of the axis. Hamilton won several reps during the 1 on 1 portion of the camp. He was able to move well laterally to stay in front the defenders. Noah had a great camp and he received praise from his position coaches on his performance.

Cole Boyd | Class of 2027 | Quarterback | Tioga High School

Boyd has a big arm, he can spray the route tree with accuracy and he was able to complete passes in the short to intermediate zones in rhythm. He has the athleticism to make throws on the run outside the numbers on a rope. Boyd's footwork is clean, he activates his hips to get extra torque on his throws and he has the skill set that elite passers possess. His upside is huge. As he continues to develop has the potential to be one the top passers in his class.

Christian Witherspoon | Class of 2025 | Athlete | Dallas Kimball High School

Witherspoon is extremely athletic, he has a large catch radius with strong hands and he had several big grabs on contested catches. He is quick with an explosive burst off of the line of scrimmage and he has the ability to change directions quickly. He uses his length to his advantage by keeping defenders from getting hands on him initially and this allowed him to win several battles during the 1 on 1 period. Witherspoon also hopped on the defensive of the football and had several pass deflections. He will no doubt have the opportunity to see plenty of action offensively for Kimball this season.

Armirie Williams-Hall | Class of 2025 | Quarterback | Dallas Kimball High School

Offer: Mississippi Valley State

Williams-Hall has the arm talent to make every throw on the route tree and he has great touch on his deep ball. He navigates the pocket well with clean footwork, he keeps his eyes downfield on his target and he delivers the ball on time in rhythm. Williams-Hall had an impressive showing at the Flex Zone 1 on 1 Challenge, standing out as one of the top passers. He had a phenomenal junior season for Kimball, passing for 2,033 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Jaylen Gaines | Class of 2027 | Quarterback | The Colony high School

Offer: Grambling

Gaines has a cannon, he has the arm talent to fit the ball into tight coverage windows and he throws well on the run. He stands tall in the pocket and he has excellent footwork that enables him to engage his hips to get extra torque on his throws. Gaines has great touch on his deep ball and made several deep throws during the 1 on 1 period for completions. He was very accurate during the 7v7 portion of the camp, showing the ability to push the ball outside the numbers on a rope. Jaylen is a class of 2027 prospect to get on you radar and he heads in the fall season as a playmaker under center at The Colony to keep an eye on.
