TYLER, Texas (SPORTyler/SMU) – SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings has been named an honorable mention selection for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, SPORTyler announced Tuesday.
Jennings earned the recognition after powering the Mustangs to a dominant 38-6 victory over ACC foe Louisville, turning in a 303-yard performance through the air with three passing touchdowns and one rushing score. The outing marked his third straight 300-yard game, helping elevate SMU to an 8-3 overall record and 6-1 mark in ACC play.
The redshirt junior also picked up additional national attention this week, landing on both the Manning Award Stars of the Week and the Davey O’Brien Great 8 lists.
A model of efficiency and distribution, Jennings has completed passes to at least seven receivers in every game this season. With Saturday’s win, he now ranks second in SMU history in both career passing yards (7,181) and career total offense (7,712).
Nationally, Jennings continues to perform among the best in college football, currently sitting in the top 12 in FBS in four major categories:
• 9th in passing yards (3,113)
• 9th in passing yards per game (283.0)
• 10th in completions per game (23.18)
• 12th in passing touchdowns (24)
His production has helped propel SMU’s passing attack to 14th nationally (286.5 ypg).
This is Jennings’ second weekly nod from the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award this season, also earning the honor following SMU’s 31-18 win over Syracuse on Oct. 4. Before the season began, he was named to multiple prestigious watch lists, including the Maxwell Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Davey O’Brien Award, Manning Award, and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.
Established in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honors the top offensive player in Division I football who exemplifies the defining traits of Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community involvement, and tenacity, specifically, the determination to overcome adversity in pursuit of excellence. Eligible players must have graduated from a Texas high school or play at a four-year Division I Texas college.
The organization also recognizes standout performers across the state each week with Player of the Week honors.
