For just the fifth time in their illustrious existence, Denton Ryan and Aledo lock horns in a crucial matchup with all sorts of playoff ramifications on the line. This one should be a dog fight as two of the very best programs in 5A DI square off in what is likely a de-facto district championship game. Ryan comes in ranked No. 1 in the state polls and Aledo is No. 2 in 5A DI. The winner is clearly in the drivers seat for the District 3-5 DI title. In their previous four matchups, the winner has gone on to win a state championship in each of those seasons with Aledo winning the two most recent matchups in 2021 and 2022.
In yet another contest that could decide the District 5-6A race, defending district 5-6A champion, Coppell (4-0, 1-0) travels to Denton Guyer (3-1, 1-0) on Friday night. The Cowboys, winners of 13 straight district games are led by senior signal caller and Baylor pledge, Edward Griffin, while Guyer quarterback Kevin Sperry, an Oklahoma commit, holds it down for the Wildcats.
A week after dispatching it's next door neighbor and defending 4A DI champ, Anna, Melissa's (4-1,3-0) road towards a District 4-5A Division II title takes another sharp turn as Lovejoy (2-2, 2-0) and quarterback Jacob Janecek await. This one should be a heavyweight fight, with plenty of points being scored and there should be plenty offensive firepower when these two squads lock horns.
