Denton Ryan (13-1) vs. Highland Park (13-1)
In a weekend full of games featuring marquee programs, Friday nights clash at The Ford Center ranks at or near the top.
Between them, Highland Park (13-1) and Denton Ryan (13-1) have combined to win 8 state championships.
The last three postseason meetings between the two schools saw the winner go on to claim a state title. Most recently, Denton Ryan in 2020.
Interestingly, the Raiders are 7-3 all time in state semifinal matchups, with all three losses coming to Randy Allen's Scots.
Ryan prescribes to a more old school approach, leaning heavily on a massive OL anchored by Ty Haywood (Alabama commit) & Marcus Garcia (Texas A&M signee). Running backs Neo Warmate & Tre’Vaughn Reynolds have rushed for more than 2,200 yards and 31 TDs this season.
Defensively, the Raiders boast one of the best all-around units in 5A Division I, holding 7 of their 15 opponents to under 15 points.
Offensively, Highland Park is led by super sophomore quarterback Buck Randall, who has thrown for 3,392 yards and 38 TDs in his first full season as the starter. Wide receivers Cameron Bozman, Benton Owens, Brandon Lilly and Harrison Cullum have formed one of the most experienced and talented wide receiver corps in Texas.
Defensively, the Scots have proven equally adept, recording three shutouts in 2024.
This one should be as advertised.
