The Week That Was…

Shockwaves rippled throughout the state following Longview’s colossal upset of defending 6A Division 2 champion Desoto. The Lobos didn't merely upset heavily favored Desoto, they absolutely dominated them from start to finish. What's more, longtime Longview head coach John King has never lost to Desoto. Wow! Just wow!

Highland Park has almost single handedly eliminated Frisco ISD schools from the 2024 postseason. The latest victim, Frisco Lone Star was the third straight Frisco ISD team to fall prey to the Scots, who are now one win away from returning to the 5A Division I championship game.

In a contest featuring considerable hype in the week leading up to the game, South Oak Cliff turned out the lights on a highly touted Port Neches-Groves squad. The Bears and their “Death Row” defense once again proved up to the task, dismantling PNG 56-14.

North Crowley punched its long awaited ticket to a semifinal rematch vs. top ranked Duncanville with an impressive 35-7 win over previously unbeaten Allen. On a rain soaked afternoon, the Panthers leaned on a strong ground game and a swarming defense in taking down one of the state's powerhouse programs.

JaQualon Armstrong rushed for a pair of touchdowns, lifting top ranked Duncanville to a 31-13 win over a tough Bridgeland squad. The Bears, like so many before them, took their best shot.  And like so many before them, found out the hard way…. Duncanville is worth every bit of the hype it receives.
