News flash!!! Duncanville is good. Really good. The two-time defending 6A DI state champs knocked off rival Desoto (4-2) (2-1) in a matchup featuring two of the top programs in the nation. It marked the second time in four weeks, Reginald Samples’ Panthers have taken down a nationally ranked opponent. In week two, Duncanville dispatched Maryland powerhouse St. Francis Academy 28-24. Friday night in Desoto was never really close thanks to the play of 5-star QB Keelon Russell and fellow 5 star WR Dakorien Moore. The pair hooked up for 4 touchdowns in a 42-20 win over the Eagles. Forget the 6A UIL state championship, this bunch is primed for a national title and have the resume to prove it.
Denton Guyer (4-2) (2-1) moved to 6-0 all-time vs Hebron (3-3) (1-2) thanks to a strong defensive effort. The Wildcats recorded 10 TFL’s and six sacks in holding Hebron to a season low 10 points.
The dream ride continues for Saginaw (6-0) (4-0) as the Rough Riders remain unbeaten after a 21-15 win over Arlington Heights (5-1) (3-1). For the first time since anyone can remember, Saginaw finds itself tied atop the 4-5A DI standings and a showdown with Forth Worth Paschal (5-1) (4-0) looms in a de-facto district championship game. But more on that later in the week. Congrats to the Rough Rider nation. Can they make it 7 in-a-row? We’ll know in a few days.
Denton Ryan (5-1) (3-1) picked up a crucial 44-19 win over previously unbeaten Richland (6-1) (3-1) to remain alive for one of the final playoff spots in District 3-5A DI. The Raiders defense was the story of the night as Denton Ryan held Richland QB Drew Kates in check, limiting the area’s leading 5A passer to season lows in passing yards (202) and completion percentage (40%).
In a week full of dominant defensive performances, Argyle’s (5-1) (4-0) defense answered the bell, dispatching Arlington Seguin 36-7 and strengthening its choke hold atop the 3-5A DII district standings. Argyle held Seguin to just 87 yards rushing en route to its fifth straight win.
