North. Crowley Dominates Allen To Setup Duncanville Rematch
Mansfield, Texas - Not even Mother Nature can stop North Crowley.
On a nasty day full of wind and driving rain, the Panthers cruised to an easy 35-7 win over 5 time state champion Allen (13-1) in the Class 6A Division I Region 1 final at Mansfield ISD’s Vernon Newsom Stadium.
North Crowley’s win was the final hurdle in setting up a highly anticipated rematch with top ranked Duncanville. The two teams met last season in round five with Duncanville routing North Crowley en route to a second straight Class 6A Division I championship.
The game, like the weather, wasn't always pretty. At times, it was downright sloppy. But it was never in doubt.
North Crowley struck first when QB Chris Jimmerson Jr. capped a nine-play 75 yard drive with a two yard TD run, giving the Panthers a 7-0 lead they would never relinquish.
Jimmerson Jr., a North Texas signee, who is one of the most prolific passers in all of Texas, only threw seven passes on Saturday. Coach Ray Gates elected to cap his team's renowned aerial attack in favor of an equally effective ground game. Led by UNLV signee, Cornelius Warren III, the Panthers rolled up nearly 400 yards on the ground. Warren III, for the second straight week answered the bell offensively for North Crowley, finishing with 171 yards and a TD. Sophomore Kiante Ingram added 130 yards and 2 TDs.
Allen, boasted one of the states top defenses, allowing just a shade over 10 points a game. The Eagles had not allowed more than 21 points all season.
North Crowley matched that total by halftime.
While the offense did its part as usual, a swarming defense smothered Allen at every turn. By night's end, the Eagles finished with just 91 yards of total offense. The Eagles scored with just over four minutes remaining in the game to avoid the shutout.
It was Allen's fourth loss in the regional final in five years. It also marked the second time in two years, its season ended at the hands of North Crowley.
