In a thrilling matchup of top ten Texas high school football teams, North Crowley outlasted DeSoto in a high-scoring affair, winning 57-51. The Panthers were led by senior quarterback Chris Jimerson Jr., who threw four touchdown passes, and running back Cornelius Warren, who added four rushing scores. Daniel Bray also had a strong night on the ground, rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown.
The star of the night was senior wide receiver Quentin Gibson, who consistently made big plays, finishing with seven receptions for 180 yards and four touchdowns. Gibson's speed stretched DeSoto's defense, and he showcased his ball-tracking ability with two over-the-shoulder touchdown grabs.
For DeSoto, Virginia Tech commit Kelden Ryan lived up to his reputation as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the state. Ryan was electric on the ground, rushing for three touchdowns while adding two more through the air. Running back Tiger Riden was also effective, contributing a couple of rushing touchdowns. Despite Ryan's efforts, DeSoto suffered its first loss in two seasons, ending an impressive run of success.
With the win, North Crowley continues their successful run over the last two seasons under head coach Ray Gates. The Panthers are 28-2, including the two wins to start the season in 2024. Gates has built the North Crowley program for big moments and big games, as they have their sites set on winning a state title. Coach Gates and the Panthers are setting the tone this season by remaining undefeated after a big win over previously unbeaten Desoto.
