South Oak Cliff Dominates Huntsville, Advances to Third Round of Playoffs
The South Oak Cliff Golden Bears continued their tradition of tough, physical football with a commanding 38-7 victory over the Huntsville Hornets in the Area Round of the playoffs. Known as the “Death Row” defense, the Golden Bears lived up to their reputation, delivering an aggressive, fast, and disciplined defensive performance that stifled a Huntsville team that had scored over 40 points in three straight games.
From the opening snap, South Oak Cliff’s defense dominated, led by a front seven that included returning all-state linebackers in Jayden Shelton and Jamarion Phillips, along with defensive linemen Jordan Atkinson, Kordae Houston, Kamauryn Morgan, Paul Blair, and Dewaylon Butler, who consistently disrupted the Hornets’ backfield. Freshman quarterback Zay Adolphe faced relentless pressure, while the Golden Bears held Huntsville to just 95 rushing yards, smothering their offense.
Offensively, South Oak Cliff controlled the line of scrimmage behind a massive and dominant offensive line featuring Emeka Ugori, Brison Ramsey-Brooks, Brian Swanson, and Courtavious Tisaby. Running back Mikal Trotter carried the ball 27 times for 154 yards and a touchdown, while Damond Williams added two scores. Senior quarterback Carter Kopecky passed for 148 yards and a touchdown, adding timely runs that showcased his speed and burst.
With the win, the two-time defending state champions advance to the third round of the playoffs, where they will face Marshall on Friday at Rose Stadium in Tyler. The Golden Bears are aiming to make their fourth straight trip to the state title game as they continue their quest for a third state championship.
