The Week That Was…..Week Four

Southlake Carroll’s high powered offense jumped out to a 35-7 first half lead and held on for dear life in the second half as Trinity scored touchdowns on six straight possessions, making for an interesting second half. In the end, the Dragons defense stood tall when it mattered most, thwarting the Trojans comeback bid, escaping with a 56-48 road win to remain unbeaten.

After a rare 0-2 for first year Lovejoy coach Todd Dodge, the Leopards have won their last two to move to 2-0 in district play. Take note class 5A DII, as it seems the Leopards have found their footing after a slow start. Uh oh. This is a dangerous football team that's only going to get better as the season winds on. Quarterback Jacob Janecek was superb in a 66-62 win over defending 4A champ Anna on Friday night. He was efficient, going 15 of 24 for 298 yards and 6 touchdowns with no an interceptions. He ran for two more scores, accounting for a total of eight on the night. Wow!

Denver, area powerhouse Cherry Creek (Colo.), spoiled the celebration party for coach Randy Allen who had the Highland Park Scots home field named in his honor on Friday night. The state's winningest active coach suffered just his third home loss in 26 seasons at Highland Park, as the Cherry Creek Cougars roared to a big lead early and held off a furious 4th quarter rally to hand the Scots their first loss of the season.

Nationally ranked North Crowley rolled to it's third straight win over a ranked opponent, destroying Rockwall 70-17. Can anyone stop the Panthers? So far, the answer is a resounding no.

In a battle of Frisco ISD schools, Lone Star remained undefeated and sent a loud statement across class 5A DI, with a 62-7 thumping of Frisco Centennial Thursday night at Toyota Stadium. Quarterback Karece Hoyt was unstoppable, accounting for 7 touchdowns in the win.

After two straight blowout losses, Cedar Hill got back on the right side of the win column with an impressive 34-15 win over Skyline to open play in District 11-6A.

Lastly, Allen quarterback Brady Bricker shows no signs of any lingering issues from the broken collarbone he suffered to end the 2023 season. The Eagles signal caller continued his torrid start to the 2024 season, in leading Allen to it's 91st consecutive win over the three Plano ISD schools. Bricker went 17-of-24 for 167 and a touchdown. He lead the quietly undefeated Eagles to a 38-21 win over Plano.
