The Week That Will Be….
The mid-point of the 2024 high school football season is upon us. And per the usual, a who’s who of high school football programs throughout the Lone Star State and here locally in DFW top the list of undefeated teams and championship contenders as district play begins in earnest.
Non-district matchups, while entertaining, have very little impact on the shape of a season. That all changes this week as everyone dives into district play as the field begins to separate itself from the pack.
Sure, we’re all familiar with Duncanville and the collection of blue chippers dotting it's roster. And Southlake Carroll is….well…Southlake Carroll. Ray Gates and his North Crowley team continue their ascension towards the top of both the state and national polls and, well, you get the picture. The usual suspects are doing exactly what their known for doing. No surprise there.
However, tucked away among the giants of the DFW football landscape are a pair of undefeated Ft. Worth teams who are experiencing their best seasons in school history. And that's where we begin with this week's feature.
We’ll start with Chisholm Trail who knocked off Trimble Tech to move to 4-0 after a
dominating 63-0 win last week. The Rangers, off to their best start ever, eclipsed the 60 point plateau for the first time in school history with Friday night's win. A tip of the cap to the undefeated Chisholm Trail Rangers. No rest for the weary though as the Rangers face a tough test vs. Arlington Heights this week. Can they make it five in a row?
Nearby Saginaw is also experiencing a historical start, as the undefeated Roughriders head into a big divisional game vs Wyatt after a bye week. Saginaw’s three wins in 2024 equals their win total for the last four seasons combined. Do ya thang Saginaw!!!
A rivalry is renewed Friday night as defending 4A DI champ, Anna takes on neighboring Melissa in a contest that figures to be one of the best matchups in the entire state. Following realignment, the two Colin County schools, separated by just 10 miles are now district foes in Class 5A Division II. Melissa won their last head to head meeting, 51-19 in 2021.
Colleyville Heritage travels to Argyle in a rematch of last year's 5A Division II regional semifinal, in which the Panthers claimed a narrow 38-34 win. It could serve as a preview for another postseason meeting between the two again this year depending upon how things shakeout over the next five weeks.
We are knee deep in the high school football season and the games around this time of year start to matter more. Follow us here at https://www.ondamarcsports.com/. Subscribe to the site and stay locked in all season long.
