The Week That Was….
In Week Zero of the high school football season, there were several marquee matchups involving some of the top teams throughout DFW and North Texas. Several programs clashed with out of state programs while others stayed closer to home to face traditional rivals. DFW area teams wear the crown when it comes winning state titles and several teams from the Metroplex are favored to make another trip to Jerry World this season. We take a look at some of the big dawgs, as well as a few teams who look poised to make some noise this season.

South Oak Cliff (0) vs. North Shore (38)
Billed as one of the top intrastate matchups in Week Zero, this game checked all the big game boxes as both schools entered Friday night among the favorites to play for a state championship in their perspective divisions. On the field, it failed to meet even a fraction of the hype as North Shore KO’d South Oak Cliff with a 38-0 blowout in a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the final score indicates. Senior quarterback Kaleb Bailey was stellar in his opening game of the season. One the key plays in the first half saw Bailey rip off a 63-yard run through the teeth of the defense for a touchdown. He is one of the top duel threat quarterbacks in the class of 2025 in Texas.

Creekside (Ga) (0) vs Desoto (70)
Class 4A Georgia powerhouse Creekside trekked halfway across the country to test its mettle against one of the very best programs not only inside the state of Texas but in the entire country. Creekside quickly realized what those of us around Texas already knew. Desoto is good. Desoto is real good. The Eagles, along with their new signal caller Kelden Ryan scored early and often in a 70-0 blowout win in yet another early season tilt that failed to live up to its enormous hype. The Eagles senior signal caller scored on the ground and through the air. The Virginia Tech commit is one the top duel threat quarterbacks in the 2025 class and he performed like it on Saturday.

North Crowley (29) vs. Lancaster (21)
North Crowley quarterback Chris Jimmerson Jr. was money all game long, as the Panthers wrestled away a hard fought 29-21 win over 6A newcomer Lancaster. The Panthers jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and never looked back en route to a morale building win in Week Zero. Jimmerson Jr. is the senior leader under center for North Crowley and he showed that he has full command of the Panther offense. He threw for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns and he was selected as the MVP of the Jerry Jones Classic.

Highland Park (34) vs. Rockwall-Heath (21)
Sophomore quarterback Buck Randall guided a methodical effort offensively for the Scots, going 17 of 27 for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns. Randall also added a rushing touchdown to his totals on Thursday night. His stellar play was a big reason that Highland Park got a big win over Rockwall-Heath.
The Scots defense was equally impressive, surrendering just 229 yards of total offense. Defensive back Angus Hall’s 99 yard pick six in the second quarter blew this game open as the Scots picked up an impressive double digit win on the road.

Aledo (30) vs. Denton Guyer (35)
In one of the very best games of week one, Denton Guyer ended the Bearcats 30
game win streak with a thrilling 35-30 win vs tradition rich Aledo. Prior to Friday night, the last team to beat the two-time defending champs
was……..Denton-Guyer in 2022. Junior wide receiver Corbin Glasco had two touchdowns on the night to help lead Guyer to a dramatic season opening win.
