Roman Morales Leads Saginaw to Historic Playoff Victory and Undefeated Record
Senior quarterback Roman Morales has been the driving force behind the Saginaw Roughriders’ breakout season, putting the program on the map with his stellar play. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound signal-caller has guided the Roughriders to a 4-5A Division I district title, an undefeated 10-0 regular season, and now, the first Bi-District Championship in school history following a dramatic 41-39 victory over Azle.
Roman plays with a gunslinger mentality, Morales is a tough, gritty competitor who thrives in big moments. As a junior, he passed for 1,459 yards and 12 touchdowns, adding 229 rushing yards and five scores on the ground. This season, Morales has elevated his game, consistently being the best player on the field.
A true dual-threat quarterback, Morales boasts the arm talent to make big throws, he is accurate with his passes on the run, and excels at evading pressure in a collapsing pocket. His athleticism allows him to extend plays and deliver strikes downfield, while his physical running style adds another dimension to his game.
As Saginaw’s leading rusher, Morales combines power and agility to make defenders miss and find the end zone, making him a constant scoring threat.
In the Bi-District Round, Morales delivered a performance for the ages, throwing for 478 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 150 yards and another score. His heroics secured Saginaw’s narrow win over Azle and propelled the Roughriders to an 11-0 record heading into the Area Round of the playoffs.
With his impressive skill set, Morales has shown he has the tools to compete at the next level. For college programs seeking a gritty, playmaking quarterback who rises to the occasion in big moments, Morales could prove to be a hidden gem.
