The 2025 Texas high school track and field season has delivered one of the deepest, fastest, and most competitive years in recent memory. Across every region, standout athletes and powerhouse programs have pushed each other to elite performances week after week. Among the top-performing programs this spring, Mansfield Lake Ridge has firmly established itself as a dominant force in both boys and girls track.
Lake Ridge Boys 4x200M Relay: Built for Speed
Few relay squads in the state have been more explosive this season than the Lake Ridge Eagles boys 4x200-meter team. The quartet of Chayse Osborne, Tylen Hockett, Noel Butler, and Markeis Smith has been turning heads all spring with consistent top-tier performances, culminating in a Region I-6A championship title and a trip to the UIL State Track and Field Championships in Austin.
Their winning time of 1:25.49 at regionals not only secured their place in the state finals, it solidified them as one of the fastest units in Texas Class 6A this season. The group features a perfect blend of raw speed, smooth handoffs, and competitive fire.
Three of the four runners, Hockett (defensive back), Butler (wide receiver), and Smith (defensive back), also star on the Lake Ridge football team. Their ability to carry over their success on the track to the field this fall gives the Eagles a major boost in the speed department. Smith, in particular, has posted standout sprint marks this spring, including a 10.59-second 100M dash at the Red Oak Relays, a time that places him among the state’s elite sprinters. Butler’s athleticism hasn’t gone unnoticed either. He picked up a Division I football offer from Sacramento State this spring. Hockett is a sought after prospect as well, with offers from Sacramento State, UTEP, Western Illinois and Texas State.
As they head into the state championship meet, the Lake Ridge boys have their sights set on gold and the chance to make program history.
Lake Ridge Girls 4x100M Relay: Fast, Young, and Dangerous
On the girls’ side, Lake Ridge has built a lightning-fast 4x100-meter relay team that is not only winning but breaking personal and program records along the way. The squad, comprised of Gabrielle Moore (Class of 2027), Makaila Young (2026), Evah Elleby (2028), and senior Willow Bowie (2025), has displayed incredible chemistry and next-level speed throughout the spring.
At the area meet, the girls posted a season-best time of 45.39 seconds, a performance that earned them gold and continued their momentum into the Region I-6A Championships, where they captured the regional title and punched their ticket to state.
The emergence of Evah Elleby has been a major storyline this season. This season she laid claim to being the fastest freshman in the nation. Elleby is a name track fans across the country are beginning to recognize. A decorated AAU All-American in both the 100M and 200M, Elleby clocked an eye-opening 23.34 in the 200M and a 11.36 in the 100M this spring, times that place her at the top of national freshman rankings. Her combination of raw speed, smooth stride, and race awareness makes her a future star.
The balance of young talent and veteran leadership, led by senior Willow Bowie, gives the Lake Ridge girls 4x100 team both current strength and a bright future. Moore and Young are both rising stars in their own right, and this relay unit could be a staple at the top of Texas track standings for years to come.
Looking Ahead: Eyes on Austin and Beyond
With both the boys 4x200 and girls 4x100 relay squads advancing to the 2025 UIL State Track and Field Championships, Lake Ridge is in position to contend for multiple state titles. More than just talented runners, these athletes represent a culture of hard work, team chemistry, and competitive excellence that has defined the Lake Ridge program.
Their success is also a reflection of how speed on the track can fuel overall athletic performance, many of these athletes are multi-sport standouts who bring their quickness, explosiveness, and discipline into other sports, particularly football.
As they head to Austin, the message is clear: Lake Ridge is not just participating, they’re competing to win. The Eagles have built something special on the track this spring, and now they have the opportunity to finish the season with a championship legacy.
