Top talent from across the country traveled to Houston to compete at the You Are Athlete All American Showcase, one of the premier offseason events for rising football prospects. More than 300 athletes earned invitations after being selected at regional stops during the YAA Camp Tour this spring, bringing together elite talent from multiple states and classifications.
Day one featured high-level competition across every position group, with prospects showcasing their athleticism, football IQ, and versatility during individual drills, 1-on-1 competition, and 7-on-7 periods. Several players separated themselves with standout performances and proved why they are among the top emerging recruits in the country.
Tyler Duren | DB | Class of 2027 | Carrollton, Mississippi
Duren turned in one of the top defensive back performances of the day. The 6-foot-1, 171-pound defensive back possesses a long, lean athletic frame with excellent movement skills and natural cover ability.
Duren displayed smooth footwork throughout the defensive back drills, showing fluid hips, a clean backpedal, and the ability to transition quickly in coverage. His length consistently disrupted passing lanes, and he showed strong instincts tracking the football in the air.
During the 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 sessions, Duren recorded multiple pass breakups while consistently staying in phase with receivers. His fall film backs up what he displayed in Houston, as he totaled 55 tackles and two interceptions while showcasing excellent range and reliable tackling ability in space.
Duren was one of the clear top performers on day one.
Joshua Coats | DB | Class of 2028 | Lutheran West HS (Ohio)
Coats made a strong impression with his combination of length, athleticism, and instincts in the secondary. The 2028 defensive back from Cleveland showed advanced coverage skills for an underclassman.
Coats consistently used his length effectively at the line of scrimmage and throughout routes. He displayed fluid hips, smooth transitions, and the ability to change direction quickly while maintaining leverage in coverage.
One of the most impressive parts of his performance was his ball production. Coats showed excellent timing and awareness attacking the football in flight, recording multiple interceptions and pass breakups during both the 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 portions of camp.
His instincts and natural ball skills make him a young defensive back to monitor closely moving forward.
Zander Westwood | LB | Class of 2027 | Wyomissing HS (Pennsylvania)
Westwood showcased why he is one of the more intriguing linebacker prospects in attendance. At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, Westwood combines size with fluid athletic movement and impressive range.
He excelled during the individual drill portion of camp, displaying clean footwork, lateral quickness, and strong body control in space. Westwood particularly stood out during the cat-and-mouse pursuit drills, where he consistently tracked down running backs with speed and discipline.
His film reflects the same traits he showed in Houston, an instinctive linebacker who attacks downhill under control, finishes plays, and plays with physicality. Westwood’s ability to move efficiently at his size made him one of the top linebacker performers on day one.
Davonte Ferrigon | DL | Class of 2027 | Cardinal O’Hara HS (Pennsylvania)
Ferrigon brought a physical and disruptive presence to the defensive line group. The 2027 defensive lineman possesses a stout build with a powerful lower half and consistently created problems at the line of scrimmage.
Ferrigon showed a quick first step off the ball and violent hands at engagement, generating knock-back power and forcing offensive linemen into recovery mode. Despite his power, he also moved well laterally and showed solid mobility during drills.
His film reveals a classic nose tackle skill set in an odd-man front. Ferrigon consistently creates early penetration, anchors well against the run, and pursues the football with effort. His active motor and physical play style earned him recognition as one of the top defensive line performers from day one.
William McBeth | DB | Class of 2027 | Dunbar HS (Baltimore, Maryland)
McBeth was one of the most productive defensive backs throughout the opening day of competition. He flashed early during individual drills and carried that momentum into both 1-on-1s and 7-on-7 periods.
McBeth displayed sticky coverage ability, smooth footwork, and excellent ball skills throughout the day. He showed the versatility to play either safety or cornerback while consistently reading routes and reacting quickly to the football.
On film, McBeth shows range, instincts, and strong tackling ability as a true ballhawk in the secondary. His ability to close passing windows and create turnovers stood out in Houston, as he recorded multiple interceptions and pass breakups during competition.
Kaden Peoples | LB | Class of 2028 | Selma HS (Alabama)
Regardless of position, Peoples was one of the most impressive overall athletes on the field during day one of the showcase.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker possesses a long, athletic frame paired with outstanding movement skills. Peoples showed fluid hips, quick change-of-direction ability, and excellent acceleration closing on ball carriers.
He was particularly impressive during pursuit drills, where he consistently displayed speed, range, and the ability to track down runners in space. Peoples also showed strong body control and the ability to plant and explode downhill quickly.
Already holding an offer from North Alabama, Peoples looks like a prospect whose recruitment could expand significantly following performances like this one.
Grayson Richardson | WR | Class of 2029 | Stephen Decatur HS (Maryland)
Richardson put together a solid opening day performance at wide receiver. The 2029 prospect showed advanced route-running ability and a physical presence.
Richardson consistently created separation with clean breaks and sharp route execution while also showing toughness at the catch point. He possesses a stout frame, solid speed, and the ability to compete physically against defensive backs.
His overall polish and consistency stood out throughout the day.
Larry Sherman | EDGE | Class of 2028 | Jeffersonville HS (Indiana)
Sherman emerged as one of the top edge defenders during the 1-on-1 competition periods. At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, Sherman has a strong frame with good length and physical tools.
He consistently won reps with a quick get-off and violent hands at contact, showing the ability to disengage and create pressure off the edge. Sherman played with aggression and power while also displaying active feet and balance rushing the passer.
His performance throughout the day earned him recognition as one of the top edge rushers from day one.
Mark Allen Jr. | RB | Class of 2029 | Mater Dei HS (California)
Allen Jr. delivered one of the most electric performances of the showcase regardless of class. The 2029 running back from Mater Dei displayed a complete skill set with elite movement ability, balance, and explosiveness.
At 6-foot and 210 pounds, Allen combines a compact, powerful build with outstanding quickness and acceleration. He consistently made defenders miss during the cat-and-mouse drills and 1-on-1 periods, showing sharp cuts, lateral agility, and the ability to accelerate out of breaks.
Allen also displayed strong hands as a pass catcher and ran with excellent leverage and body control throughout the day. His combination of size, burst, and versatility made him one of the most difficult offensive players to defend.
Already holding offers from programs including UCLA, Wisconsin, Oregon, Colorado State, Arizona, and USC, Allen Jr. is establishing himself as of the premier running backs in the country in the 2029 class.
