Japrei Wafer is quickly establishing himself as one of the most dominant defensive players in 6A Texas football. The 6'0", 210-pound middle linebacker for the Allen Eagles has been the backbone of his team’s defense this season, showing off his hard-hitting style, physicality, and sideline-to-sideline range. Assistant Coach Victor Gonzales Jr. had high praise for Wafer, calling him "the leader of the Allen Eagles defense." via X. Wafer plays with a physicality that is reminiscent of old-school linebackers—players who thrive on punishing ball carriers and setting the tone for the defense. His instincts are sharp, allowing him to quickly diagnose plays and put himself in position to make tackles.
In addition to his tough, physical style, Wafer’s agility for his size, he moves with a surprising quickness, covering a lot of ground and shutting down runs both inside and outside. His ability to move sideline to sideline is a critical asset for the Eagles' defense, allowing him to patrol the field and make plays all over the gridiron.
As a Class of 2026 prospect, Wafer is still early in his high school career, but it’s clear that he has a bright future ahead of him. For now, he’s focused on leading the Allen Eagles to success and even a state title.
Japrei Wafer is one of the most exciting defensive prospects in the state of Texas of the 2026 class—and as his game continues to evolve, he’s poised to make an even bigger impact heading into the Texas state playoffs.
