Top Texas Prospect Spotlight: QB Daylon Brooks

Written By: Roman Alacron

Top Texas Prospect's mission is to "Shine The Light On Hidden Gems"—players who possess exceptional talent but may be flying under the radar or on the cusp of breaking out. Our goal is to provide these athletes with the exposure they deserve, highlighting their skills and potential to help them gain the recognition and opportunities they need to succeed. We are dedicated to giving these hidden gems the spotlight, ensuring their talents are seen and appreciated.

South Grand Prairie High School junior quarterback Daylon Brooks is someone who I got my eyes on since his sophomore campaign. If high school players were stocks, I’d invest in Brooks. Sure there are criticisms about South Grand Prairie's record during his time as the starting quarterback (2023: 3-8 & 2024: 6-5) with two losses to Lake Highlands in the first round playoffs, but his play is simply extraordinary.

It transcends his wins and losses, the baseline is: the kid can play ball. He is really good. It’s insane to see the playmaking ability he possesses.

Brooks has been put up sensational statistical numbers this season. He has passed for over 2,000 yards with 21 touchdowns and only 3 INTs. Brooks has proven to be a productive player, but let’s dive deeper into his game.

Brooks has elite playmaking abilities and a rocket of an arm that he uses to make big plays. A prime example was a highlight reel TD from the Warrior's 2023 win over the cross-town Grand Prairie Gophers. Brooks rolls out to the 22 yard line, and unleashes a 43 yard throw to his receiver in double coverage for a completion! Explosive plays seem to be routine for Daylon, who had a nearly identical play this season against the same Grand Prairie team. With pressure approaching from the left, he rolled right, and unleashed a 30-yard pass to Cade Wallace for a touchdown.

Not only does he have incredible arm strength, Brooks has the skill set that makes him a duel threat. He had over 300 rushing yards on the season. His ability to make plays with his feet enables him to shred defenses on the ground. He’s also able to throw accurately on the run. In a game against Timber Creek, he got outside the pocket and tossed a dime to Cade Wallace for crucial completion.

Brooks is a Top Texas Prospect to keep an eye on. He has the skill set that college coaches covet and he has the potential to play at the next level.
