Louisville Commit Briggs Cherry Throws for Four First-Half Touchdowns as Red Raiders Remain Undefeated
CHATTANOOGA — You knew they were in trouble the minute they walked onto the field.
Actually, you knew they were in trouble before they ever got off the bus.
In its first year of varsity play, Ambassador Christian, a private school in Huntersville, North Carolina, has crisscrossed the Southeastern United States in an effort to expose its players to top competition and grow the program.
To their immense credit, the Lions have faced strong opponents across the Southeast. They’ve taken some lumps, but they’ve also won more than they’ve lost.
But almost nothing could compare or prepare them for what they saw standing across the field from them on Friday night. No scout team could replicate it. No amount of film could convey it. And coaches, no matter how much they might try, couldn’t really explain it.
Baylor is big, fast, strong, and elite!!
Sometimes, you have to see something to believe it. Experience it to understand it. Get an up-close and personal view to truly appreciate its full fury.
Count Ambassador Christian School a believer.
It took nationally ranked Baylor all of one play to seize control. One pass. One catch. One long run. Eighteen total seconds. Baylor 7, Ambassador Christian 0.
Just like that.
With one flick of Briggs Cherry’s wrist, the Lions were already in a hole too deep to climb out of.
It would get progressively deeper as the night wore on.
On its next two possessions, Baylor would score on passes from Cherry to Jayman Theodore. The first, a 31-yard strike in the front corner of the end zone, made it 14-0. The next, a 22-yard post route, put Baylor up 20-0 halfway through the first quarter.
Baylor added one more score late in the first half when Cherry hooked up with a streaking Judah Smith for a 69-yard touchdown, giving the Red Raiders a commanding 27-0 lead at the break.
Cherry, now 19-1 as the starter, finished the night 18-of-24 for 332 yards and four touchdowns.
Baylor added a field goal and two Jack Ferguson touchdowns to put the final margin at 45-0.
Head coach Erik Kimrey improved his regular-season record at Baylor to 33-4. The Red Raiders have now won 20 straight regular-season contests, dating back to September 2023.
Next week, Baylor welcomes Ensworth before closing out the regular season on Halloween night against Knoxville Catholic.
