The Week That Will Be: Week #9
OnDaMarcSports.com national correspondent Jay Pace takes a look at some of the top games from around the state of Tennessee in our weekly preview of upcoming matchups.
Maryville (6-1) (4-0) at Science Hill (6-1) (1-1)
In its rise to becoming one of the state’s top programs, Maryville has been a constant thorn in the side of Stacy Carter and Science Hill. The Rebels have won 15 of the 17 overall meetings, including 14 straight.
Friday night marks the seventh meeting between the two since 2022, as they have faced off once in the regular season and again in the postseason each year. Every time, Maryville has moved on, and Science Hill has gone home.
Carter, the school’s all-time wins leader and one of the state’s winningest active head coaches (183), is 0-14 all-time versus the Rebels dating back to his days at Sullivan South. Will this finally be the year Carter and the Hilltoppers exorcise their Maryville demons?
Powell (7-0) (6-0) at Jefferson Co. (5-2) (1-1)
The second-ranked Panthers face a strong non-region opponent in Jefferson County. The Patriots are led by a veteran offense full of upperclassmen.
Quarterback Jackson Osborne leads an attack that has scored 30 or more points four times this season.
For Powell to remain undefeated, it must find a way to slow down a high-powered Patriot offense capable of putting up points in a hurry.
McCallie (5-2) (0-2) at Knox Catholic (5-2) (0-2)
This game is absolutely crucial in the Division II-AAA East playoff race. While both teams are guaranteed a postseason spot, this matchup will go a long way in determining playoff seeding and first-round opponents.
